Blaupunkt, a wholly owned

subsidiary of Robert Bosch, had its be-

ginnings back in 1923 when it was known by

the name “Ideal,” and manufactured high quality

headphones. Each one was carefully tested by techni-

cians, and only the very best were marked with a blue

dot as a symbol of quality. Before long, customers began

to ask for the head-phones marked with the blue dot, or

“blaupunkt,” in German. This symbol became the benchmark of

quality for the company and it was soon registered as a trade-

mark. Later, Ideal changed its name to Blaupunkt, carrying for-

ward the brand’s reputation for quality, experience, and inno-

vation into mobile electronics. Today, Blaupunkt employs

more than 9,300 people worldwide and produces more

than 5 million car radios and 1,000,000 navigation

systems each year. Over the years, Blaupunkt

has manufactured about 130,000,000 car
